Underwater Speakers-How They Work
Designed for applications ranging from synchronized swimming and diver communication to recreational/therapeutic pools, ClarkSynthesis Aquasonic underwater speakers provide superior full-range fidelity.

Why? Waterborne vibrations have less effect on the ear drum than do airborne vibrations. As a result, there tends to be a muted quality to underwater sound. This is why ordinary underwater loudspeakers don’t win many awards for fidelity. However, if waterborne vibrations are strong enough, they also are conducted through the bones near our ears. This process - known as bone conduction -sends tactile sound vibrations directly to the inner ear, where they are translated into electrical signals for the brain (i.e., sound). This technology is what gives these transducers that feel-it-in-your-bones rich sound.

Clark Synthesis’ patented Aquasonic underwater loudspeakers are powerful compression drivers similar to the acclaimed Tactile Sound Transducers (TSTs) used in home theaters and other sound systems. Aquasonic speakers produce strong vibrations over a full range of tactile and audible frequencies, providing high-quality underwater sound through a combination of acoustic transmission and bone conduction.

Aquasonic speakers contain two elements: The main driver (for bass and middle frequencies) and an attached Acoustic Lens for improved high-frequency fidelity. Standard Aquasonic models are designed to either hang into the water by a cord, be installed it-wall in a standard pool light fixture, or float on top of the water sending sound both underneath and above the water's surface. WTL models are designed specifically for installation inside Amerilite-brand pool-light fixtures. All Aquasonic models include a built-in, 25-foot Enduroflex waterproof speaker cable.

Clark Synthesis's transducers were originally developed for flight simulation. The patented design actually allows you to FEEL the music and was discovered to lend itself very nicely to underwater applications. It's one of the reasons they were issued U.S. Patent #5,473,700. The real 'secret' behind the Clark design is in their uniquely versatile shape and construction. Installing Aquasonic Underwater Speakers is easy both during your pool construction and after. If you would like to install
your speaker permanently in your pool wall, the speaker is fitted into an Amer-lite brand standard pool light niche installed in you pool wall at the time of your pool's construction. If your pool already exists, then that same speaker can be used by dropping the unit in the pool by the waterproof cord and it simply rests along the edge of the pool floor. A third option is to use the unit a a float-on-top speaker, taking advantage of sound above AND below the water's surface. See below for equipment specs:
