As we researched this topic, we were curious why one couldn’t just buy bottles of Kangen water instead of invest ing in a generator for home use. We learned that to get the full benefit of Kangen water, it must be produced on demand. The highest negative ORP occurs when the water is initially produced. Drinking fresh Kangen water gives the body more anti-oxidant power.
Owning a unit also makes it possible to drink as much pure Kangen water as your body desires every day with out the waste of plastic bottles or having plastic-con taminated water. Many years ago, naturopath Dr. David Carpenter traveled to Japan to investigate reports of how Japanese health professionals and hospitals were successfully using ionized acid water to treat skin conditions like psoriasis, bedsores, diabeticulcersandgangrene.Theywerealsousingstrongalkaline watertocleanfood,andtheyusedalkalinedrinkingwatertoimprovehealth. Since doctors achieved consistently impressive results in Japan, when he returned to the U.S. he began to search for a water ionizer that would produce the same healing waters. Effect of Acid on Physiology
The body will do anything it can to keep the pH of the blood at its optimum level of 7.36 because if it drops to 7 pH, you can lapse into a coma and die. Because of the logarithmic scale of pH, this seemingly small change represents a four times more acidic state. The blood varies little from the proper pH. Because of this, our organs and bones are totally subservient to blood pH – the body will destroy its own organs before it lets the blood pH become acidic.
But the rest of the fluids in the body’s tissues may be more acidic. According to Dr. Robert O. Young, in such an environment, beneficial microforms will die and aggressive microforms sustained by an acidic environment begin to multiply and mutate, becoming parasitic and pathogenic agents.9

People often ask why they should spend $3980 on a water ionizer when they can find them cheaper. Compari sons show that water ionizers that are priced lower than the Enagic LeveLuk SD501 actually cost much more over the life of the device.
Electrolysis Process
The most costly part of any of these water devices is the electrolysis plates which are made of the pre cious metals titanium and platinum. (Platinum costs over $1,200 an ounce.) Some cheaper ionizers use wire mesh, sprayed with a platinum coating, while Enagic’s plates are solid titanium, dipped in plati num, with a nearly 5 times larger surface area.
For example, one of the higher priced com petitor units costs $1,400, which is $25 a square inch for the 56 sq. inches of wire mesh water chamber electrolysis plates. An Enagic SD501 machine has 245 sq. inches of solid (not mesh) titanium plates that are platinum dipped, not sprayed! That works out to $16 per square inch.
One of the factors that reduce the efficiency of any ionizing water device is when the plates in the water chamber heat up. Small plates heat up faster than large ones. This causes the alkalinity to drop off sharply and quickly in devices with small plates. The SD501 alkalinity rate drops off only 15% after an hour of continual use!

I am glad you are beginning to research in preparation for your purchase and I appreciate the respect you have shown me in letting me know what you were finding on the internet. Please don’t worry that you’ll offend me if you choose a different company’s device; I want you to make the best choice for you and I am committed to assist you however I can. I’ve done a lot of research and can offer you some things to think about that may not have occurred to you otherwise.
Yes, you could buy two Jupiter’s for the out of pocket purchase price of the Enagic SD501. But let me take a few minutes of your time to share some thoughts on this. I care about you and hope to spare you wasting any money at all on that second purchase; because I’m 90% positive that if you were to purchase a less expensive ionizer, you will end up purchasing two devices—maybe three or four—in the same 15 years that your SD501 would have happily met your expectations in it’s lifespan, had you bought it first-- instead of as a replacement ionizer for a cheaper one. In the long run, I think 99% of the people will be happier with an SD501, if you take into account these important things:
1st- Quality of the water and quality of the device
2nd- Customer service and longevity of the company, as many companies “go under” in this competitive and growing market
3rd – Price, including price over the lifespan of the device as well as the price you pay out of your pocket for your device.
4th- Integrity and honesty of the company
5th- The most important question of all you should ask is: DOES IT DO WHAT IT"S SUPPOSED TO DO? ARE PEOPLE GETTING WELL, and are they GETTING RESULTS ON THE WATER?
6th- What have the doctors and scientists said about which one is the best device?
1st --Quality:
- Enagic is the industry’s stated “gold standard. The other companies all know it; why else would they compare theirs to Enagic’s? What are they telling you by this?
- The plates in the Enagic device, which is where 90% of your cost goes, are solid titanium ($1400.00 an ounce) with a heavy platinum coating. They are twice the size of the other machine’s plates, which are mesh and feel like felt. Jupiter sites would have you believe that they do this “on purpose” to get more surface area. Well, of course, they have to, since their plates are half the size! Bottom line, they use much less of the expensive titanium, and platinum, and so it costs them less to manufacture. KYK uses “white gold” which is 60% silver. Silver is considered a toxin by the EPA, and must be registered with them.
- (You get what you pay for. You can buy a Mac computer, or a Dell, and replace it more frequently; or a Land Rover, or a Hyundai.)
- Enagic’s devices are third generation, have the industry best patented self-cleaning system and hoses.
- The SD501 makes water 2.5 times faster than the Jupiter Melody. Other device’s hoses are much narrower in diameter to force the water over the plates more slowly to get the negative ORP.
- The SD501 will create 30 liters of strong acidic water in just 20 minutes. Jupiter machines do not make strong acid 2.5 pH water at all! IE 9000 devices do, however, they only have a one year warranty.
- Enagic’s 5 year guarantee, which is truly rare in the industry, and 15 year life span is awesome. If you make Sansei or beauty water for three minutes a day, you can prolong that even more.
2nd --Customer service
A. Yes, you do get a promise of phone help and you do get a video to show you how to work that machine you’ll buy off the internet. (Before you take that promise too seriously, see “3c.”) How nice. You also get a video with any Enagic Kangen water device. . . but do you know how many phone calls I receive, on average, from someone who has purchased a device with my help? Usually six or seven, in the following weeks after someone gets their device.
B. Do a check on the history of ionizer companies and you’ll see they go out of business at a dizzying speed. Enagic, in it’s current form, has not been around 30 years, but it’s parent company, Toyo, has, and has been producing water technologies that long. They are the company that made the original units used in hospitals in Japan, long before portable home units were created.
Enagic is debt free and here to stay.
B. If you ever have a problem with your Enagic device during the 5 year warranty period, you simply call the company and they will either help you over the phone with a simple solution, or if it needs repair, (like if someone dropped it) they will send out a loaner device for you to use until yours is done AND a UPS pick up form for you to send your, in at their cost. They will also pay shipping on the return of the loaner when your repair is finished. When you purchase you must initial the return policy and each customer knows up front exactly how many days, what the restocking fee is, etc from the very beginning. No surprises.
C. Life Ionizer’s reputation for customer service on the Jupiter’s they sell is questionable. This week I spoke with Linda Papin, from Midvale, Utah, who purchased a Jupiter from Life Ionizers in March. She told me her Jupiter Melody broke in 2 weeks. No one returned her call for three days, and then when she returned the device, instead of honoring their website’s claim to an “unconditional money-back guarantee”, they pulled a fast one on her and refused to return $250.00 of her $1500.00 purchase price and called it a “restocking fee”. Then, to top it off, they took 5 months to refund the other $1200.00 back onto her credit card –though she had returned the Jupiter machine in well within the 30 days. Linda’s full story in her own words is attached. I am getting a copy of her invoices as proof and will send them on when I receive them, if you like.
Read very carefully the promised “5 year guarantee” on the Life Ionizer website. It is not a full 5 years; but partial.. (a few years on parts, a few on labor, only a couple of years on both).
3rd --Price
- In taking into consideration the price, first of all see #1, quality: You get what you pay for.
- Then, realize that ALL appliances sold in this country have a similar markup. Do a check on those nutritional companies who have Jupiter made devices private labeled for them and you will find that that is why the “experts like Dr. Young recommend Jupiter”. It is because Jupiter will private label for them, and those “experts” are earning kick-backs.
C. Somewhere, someone makes a profit off all those cheaper ionizers. I’ll garner the $250.00 “restocking fee” Linda Papin was charged was the actual hard cost of the Jupiter machine she returned. Why else would they set the price there? Kitchen appliances at R.C. Willey have a 70% mark up. ( So says a former employee I know personally.) You can bet that the salesman, the appliance sales team’s manager, the floor manager, the store manager, the store owner, the R.C. Willey franchise, and the appliance manufacturer all make their cut on every appliance sold. EVERYTHING that is sold in America has at least a 50% mark-up (including the Jupiter, I’ll bet you). The profits are similar; it is just that with Enagic, you see where the money goes. And you get to be a profit sharer for your time and work. (Would you rather have Dr. Young and the corporation’s owner’s making the bulk of the money, or you, your friend, your sister or your brother, given the opportunity to make the money? “The experts” and the big whigs at the top are not the ones sharing their time with you. You’re already buying their expertise, by buying their books, or a consultation. Who shared their time and research with you, and supported you through your journey (which may have included some uncomfortable detoxification moments?) ?
- When you by a Jupiter device, or any other device that does not offer a business plan to share the water and the device and create a business opportunity for you, you have to pay for the whole entire $1500.00 purchase by yourself. There is no tax write-off. On the other hand, Enagic’s inspired marketing plan allows you to acquire a $4,000.00 “Approved Medical Device” and basically encourages you to use money that would have gone to taxes to do so! The government will allow you $5,000 the first year in tax write-offs to start a home-based business; and since the purchase of your device constitutes the ONLY necessary purchase to become an Enagic distributor (there are no fees like yearly activation or sign-up fees), you can write off your entire purchase. Then you can begin writing off another $150 to $200 a month, on average, by taking advantage of the 100+ tax breaks for home based business owners. (see Sandy Botkin’s books, a former IRS insider). This is a HUGE blessing to ANY W-2 employee or to anyone in a high tax bracket. Everyone needs a W-9 income. It is not about how much you earn here in America as much as it is about how much you keep of what you earn; because we spend more on taxes than we do on our homes, our cars, our education, our food, our clothes, etc.
Which makes more sense? Spending $600, or $800, or $1200, or $1500 of your own money, or laying out $4k for a few months , and getting that $4K+ more back in deductions when tax time comes around?
4th Integrity
- I recently tested water from a less expensive water ionizer, one that is made by a big company and private labeled for an MLM company. This water was pulled from the device at their headquarters. The company sells dried greens to assist in alkalizing the body and upping the mineral reserve in the body, which is a wonderful thing. They also offer this ionizer as part of their lineup. The water tested out at an 8.0 pH---unfortunately, the water we had selected was pH of 10.0 water. The employee there confided, “Our scientist on staff hasn’t been able to get it to produce 10.0 pH water either.” Yet they still sell this device; even though it claims it will give you water of a pH of 10 and it doesn’t.
Jupiter is known to private label their devices. The KYK, for instance, is made by Jupiter factory.
B. Please re-read the horror story of Linda Papin, under “Customer Service”. Linda waited 5 months to get her money refunded after she had returned her Jupiter machine to Life Ionizers within their specified 30 days! And the so-called “unconditional money-back guarantee” on the web did not mention a $250 restocking fee.
5th--does it make changes in the body?
A. In answer to this, please listen to the most expert testimonial I can find on the subject, that of Dave Carpenter, a naturopath who has been on the search for what he calls his “Shangrila”: the kind of water ionizer of high enough quality to produce the results actually found in the hospitals in Japan. He gives the water to all his patients, and has for 10 years; and has currently 8 to 10 other devices in his basement that he used for a time, until he’d begin anew his search for a better one that actually got results.

Late in September, I spoke with Cecil Champenois, of Fontana California today on the phone, and he told me of his friend from Chino Hills, California, Dawn Turner’s experience: “A lady to whom I was going to sell the SD501 ENAGIC machine bought the KYK Harmony; after only a few days, she is returning the machine back to the company; they have a return policy of 60 days. She has been exposed to Malathion 5 years ago and black mold two years ago and was wanting to die. C. Jupiter has been around for 15 years-- how many people shared their healing stories with you or someone you know in those 15 years? Were there healing stories happening? Enagic’s vision of “True Health and Compassion” is what is spreading the word about the power of Kangen water, not Jupiter’s alkaline ionized water’s reputation.
6th—What real “experts” recognize the quality?
Enagic is the only company to have earned the recognition from the 10,000 member strong body of scientists and doctors in the Japanese Association of Prevention of Adult Diseases. This esteemed group of scientists and doctors and clinicians, who are a non-profit organization who researches lots of things, not just water, awarded ENAGIC—not ionized water—the recognition that Enagic’s device, Not just “ionized alkaline water”, will prevent adult diseases. This association of Adult Disease Prevention gives one award in one category. Of all the water treatment systems out there, Enagic won it, in 2002. (Jupiter was around that year.) Enagic demonstrates proof that they have earned the qualification of “Approved Medical Device” from the Japanese Ministry of Health and Welfare, the award from the International Earth Environment University, and the award from the Association of Adult Preventive Diseases on their website, and in their literature, and you may view it there.
Others may claim these accolades, but where are their certificates? It is easy to say “I graduated from Harvard”, but another thing to produce the diploma. Where is the proof of these awards and recognition by KYK, Life Ionizer, Jupiter, etc?
Now, as to the specific claims on the web page you sent me:
“Myth One: Kangen water is simply a marketing term., Enagic ionizers create the same type of alkaline and acidic water as created by all other water ionizers.”
First Truth: Enagic owns the rights to the patented, trademarked name of “Kangen” water. Jupiter and all other companies are breaking copyright laws when they say that their devices produce “kangen” water. Right off the bat, this lets everyone know the lack of integrity in any company who uses the term. Enagic has not sued these companies because the Japanese paradigm of “honor” does not entail suing them.
Second Truth: Most other water ionizers on the market do not create either strong, 2.5 electrolytic acid water nor do they create strong Kangen 11.0-11.5 pH water. Therefore, “all other water ionizers” are missing out on two of the most effective, hospital-used disinfecting and cleaning waters available to the owner of an SD501 or even the Leveluk Jr II. Of those that claim to make 11.0 and 2.5, many do not!
I personally love my 11.5 water with it’s ORP of -800 and up. I have had a leaf of lettuce (and a leaf of kale) that soaked in 11.5 water for ten minutes last for 7 weeks in my fridge without any signs of deterioration! Their tissues had been infused with the “free radical mop” of the strong Kangen and there just didn’t seem to be any active oxygen left to allow them to deteriorate. I have saved an $80.00 pair of my wool dress slacks that had oil spilled on them, I use it as a pre-spot in my laundry to remove oil stains in clothing, to clean off the cook top after a stir fry, etc.
I use my 2.5 strong acidic water to kill the germs that would have otherwise resulted in a sore throat by gargling, and even stopped cold a three hour session of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea from food poisoning by swallowing 2 tablespoons. I experienced my first illness-free winter this past year in 14 years!
My friend, Shirley Blackburn, wanted to be able to kill staph, strep, salmonella, ecoli and influenza germs, and told the Jupiter sales rep so when she called to get more information as she made her decision. She asked him if his machine would produce 2.5 water. He hemmed and hawed, and said, “Well, it produces a great acid water that kills a lot of germs.” She dug deeper, asked more questions, and finally he said, “Ma’am, what you want then, is an approved medical device, and you will probably have to spend 4 or 5,000 dollars for that”. He insisted that 4.0 water from the Jupiter would still kill “Most germs”. When she asked for evidence, he had none to show her.
Jupiter websites would have you believe that acidic water in the 4.0-10.0 range do all the things that 2.5 pH water and 11.5 pH water does. I’d like to see documentation on that!
Third “Myth”: “kangen water is no better than regular alkaline ionized water. . . even cheap copy ionizers from China can get high negative ORP.”
The difference is not only in the ORP. The difference is also in the micro-clustering, the pH, and the contaminants picked up in the water depending on the material the plates are made of and coated with, and in the longevity of the device. The Jupiter plates of some of their devices are coated in white gold , as are many of the plates from China and Korea. White gold has nickel in it, one of the cheapest metals they could use. I personally have spoken with a woman in California who is allergic to nickel ( as many people are) and reacted strongly to the water from a Jupiter machine because the water had been in contact with the nickel in the white gold plating. I have tested water from “cheap ionizer” and found their ORP to be dismally inferior to my SD 501 once the machine is no longer brand new. Water from a local naturopath’s device in my city, though the device was initially over a thousand dollars, barely reached -128 on the highest setting.
As for the test the Life Ionizer folks ran in Carlsbad and describe on their website, there is a key variable that is not detailed in this “study”. They are correct in saying the type of water that goes in influences the type of water that comes out, and that an accurate test needs to be done from the same tap at the same time. But how slow or fast did they run the water? Nowhere does it say in this chart the rate of flow. The ORP is completely based on the length of time the water is in contact with the plates. . . .so if they ran it fast on the SD501 and slow on the Jupiter they could skew these results anyway they like. Therefore, without a video showing the test, I personally do not give it any credibility.
I hope these things have helped you to make this decision. I want you to get the best water for your family’s health, and the best investment for your family’s financial status!
